About the Artist:

The paintings of Maureen Hunt Piccirillo are of oil and watercolor with colors strong and lush mirroring the subtropical terrain in which she lives.

Her composition and color manipulation mirror her classical training in both the United States and Europe Included in her work are Nudes (with which she achieved her first critical acclaim), Landscapes, Architecture and Still Life.

Also, many of her original paintings are owned by collectors in the United States as well as Europe , collectors such as the HEINZ COMPANY, VERSACE, and BUKKEHAVE INC. And her line of blank verse greeting cards and matted prints go all over the world from several Florida Museums and Galleries.

Her works have been juried into national and regional museum exhibitions by such reknown judges as William Lieberman, former Chairman of 20th Century Art at the Metropolitan Museum of New York City and Richard Koshalek, former Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Los Angeles, and Lowery Sims, the Curator of 20th Century Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The Artist's Statement:

My approach is to paint what I see...I believe that secrets unfold in the details.

I choose the Everglades because for me, it is a privilege to live in South Florida where I find it inspiring to canoe and hike in the only Everglades that the world knows and celebrate it in my work.

I choose the beauty of nature as it appears in the character of animals, in the grace of flowers, wherever they present themselves. For example, because of my passion for them, I recently walked for four hours through the swamps of Fakahatchee, in the southwestern Everglades, in waist-deep water with a biologist and three naturalists, to observe the rare Ghost Orchid.

I choose the figure because I see and feel myself in others. I feel my humanist side manifests itself when I paint the figure in my studio or in the landscape. I try to celebrate all those qualities in the figure that my vision allows me to observe in order to present an aura of visible energy.

Ultimately, it is all about sharing the expression of feelings, isn't it?
